BMW i8 Hybrid

BMW has officially unveiled the BMW i8, a two-plus-two, swan-wing-door hybrid coupe that features a BMW Twin Power Turbo 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 170 kW (231 hp) of peak performance on the rear wheels, and an electric motor sends 131 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a two-speed automatic to the front wheels. With all-wheel drive at its disposal, the total system power sits at 362 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, and allows the i8 to scamper to 62 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds, and a top speed of 250km/h (155mph). That excellent performance is offset by an estimated fuel economy figure of 94 miles per gallon. Prices start at $135,972, the second most expensive member of the BMW range, behind the luxury rocket known as the 760Li.
"Driving Experience Control switch and eDrive button allow driver to choose from five driving modes, range of up to 35 kilometres (22 miles) on electric power alone and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). COMFORT mode offers optimum balance between dynamics and efficiency, combined range in everyday conditions: over 500 kilometres (310 miles). SPORTS mode with ultra-intense boost function provided by the electric motor. ECO PRO mode can be used in both all-electric mode and hybrid mode."
